If you want to see “The Newest Hottest Spike Lee Joint,” you might want to head over to Kickstarter where the veteran filmmaker from the Republic of Brooklyn is raising money for his forthcoming feature. His goal is $1,250,000.
Fans of Spike Lee’s filmography know he’s created classic work including Do the Right Thing, School Daze and Malcolm X and many others. He’s brought views of African-American life to the big screen that would have otherwise been ignored in mainstream Hollywood.
“I have a different vision of what Cinema can be, a different vision of what some under-served Audiences might want to see,” he writes. “That is why I am here on KICKSTARTER, to raise the Funds for The New Spike Lee Joint, to get this BAD BOY financed. Nothing in Life is Free and if you want something you got to pay for it.”
Besides that, Lee also helped make a sleuth of actors and actresses famous.
“Your support has been instrumental in helping to launch the Film Careers of Halle Berry, Rosie Perez, Martin Lawrence, Queen Latifah, Samuel L. Jackson, Giancarlo Esposito, Tisha Campbell, Jasmine Guy, John Turturro, Robin Harris, Anthony Mackie, Mekhi Phifer, Kerry Washington, Bill Nunn and Delroy Lindo who were showcased in my Films,” he writes.
There are incentives for everyone who donate — from $5 for a tweet from Lee to $10,000 for dinner and a court-side seat next to Lee and his wife at Madison Square Garden to watch his beloved Knicks.
